In one line: an AEO agency makes you the business an AI assistant names, not the one ranked ninth on a page nobody scrolls. AEOM8 works with single-location Sydney businesses, one client per category per area.
What is an AEO agency?
An AEO agency makes a business the name an AI assistant gives when someone asks for a recommendation. Where an SEO agency competes for a ranked link, an answer engine optimisation agency competes to be one of the two or three businesses named inside the answer itself.
That is a narrower target than a page of ten blue links. When a customer asks an assistant who to hire, they are not given a list to evaluate. They are given a short answer with a handful of names in it. Everyone else is simply absent — not ranked low, absent.
How does an AEO agency in Sydney optimise for ChatGPT?
By making the business resolvable and quotable. A model has to be able to work out who you are, and then find a sentence about you worth repeating. Those are two separate problems and most sites fail the first one.
| The work | What it fixes |
|---|---|
| Entity and schema markup | A model can resolve who you are, where you operate and what you sell, instead of guessing from page copy |
| Consistent name, address, phone | The same facts appear everywhere the model checks, so nothing contradicts |
| Question-led content | Your answer is liftable whole, in the first forty to sixty words, instead of buried in paragraph six |
| AI crawler access | GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot can actually read the site |
| Bing Places, not just Google | ChatGPT retrieves through Bing’s index, so a Google-only setup is half a job |
| Attribute-rich reviews | Review text names the service and the suburb, which is what the model matches against |
Is AEO just SEO with a new name?
No. Roughly seventy per cent of the groundwork is shared: a fast crawlable site, content that answers real questions, and a consistent business identity. The differences are specific and they matter.
| Traditional SEO | AEO | |
|---|---|---|
| Competes for | A position in a list of links | Being named inside the answer |
| Structured data | Optional, a nice-to-have | Mandatory — it is how you are identified |
| Content shape | Long, comprehensive, keyword-led | Atomic, extractable, answer-first |
| Crawler policy | Googlebot and Bingbot | A deliberate decision about AI crawlers too |
| Measured by | Rank and traffic | Running the prompts and counting the mentions |
| Failure mode | You rank fourth and still get clicks | You are the model’s fourth pick and never appear |
What does an AEO agency in Sydney cost?
Most Sydney providers sit in one of three bands. Knowing which one you are being quoted in is the most useful thing you can take into a sales call.
| Band | Typical price | What it usually is |
|---|---|---|
| SEO add-on | $300–$800 a month | Schema and FAQ work bolted onto an existing SEO retainer |
| Build, then performance | $1,500–$3,500 once | The answer layer built properly, then an arrangement tied to results. This is the band AEOM8 works in. |
| Full agency retainer | $4,000+ a month | Aimed at multi-location brands, not single-site businesses |
AEOM8 quotes the build case by case, because it depends on the size of the business, how much groundwork already exists and how much content needs writing. You get the figure in writing before anything starts and it does not change once agreed. After the build it is performance based, cancellable with a week’s notice.
How long does AEO take to work?
Structured data and profile changes are usually picked up within days to a few weeks. Being named consistently in generated answers takes longer, because models weigh third-party corroboration — reviews, directories, mentions — and that accumulates rather than switches on.
Plan in months. Measure by running the same prompts weekly and counting how often you are named, not by checking a rank. Anyone promising a fixed position in an AI answer by a fixed date does not understand how these systems choose.
Should I hire an AEO agency or do it in-house?
In-house works if someone owns structured data, listings hygiene and content shape as a standing job, and will keep running prompt tests. It usually fails on consistency rather than capability.
| In-house works when | An agency makes sense when |
|---|---|
| Someone already owns technical SEO | Nobody owns it and it keeps slipping |
| Your schema and listings are already clean | The groundwork has never been done |
| You can run prompt tests every week | You need it measured without adding a job |
| You have time to wait out mistakes | A competitor is already being named and the gap is widening |
What AEOM8 actually builds
We call it the Answer Layer: the set of things that have to be true before a model will say your name. It is the same six-part build for every client.
- AI visibility audit. What the assistants say about your category today, and which competitors they name instead of you.
- Entity and schema build. Organization, LocalBusiness, Service and FAQPage markup, so a model can resolve who you are.
- Question-led content layer. The questions your customers ask, answered in the first forty to sixty words.
- Google Business Profile optimisation. Every category, attribute and service area filled in, then synced so Bing has the same facts.
- Review generation system. Prompts that produce reviews naming the service, the suburb and the outcome.
- Measurement. The same prompts run weekly, so you can see whether you are being named more often than last month.
Who AEOM8 works with
Single-location Sydney businesses where a customer asking an assistant “who should I use” is a real buying moment: trades, health and allied health, legal, property and beauty.
One client per category per area. A model names two or three businesses. Optimising several competitors in the same suburb would mean working against most of them, so we do not do it. If your category and suburb are taken, we will say so on the first call.
